About us
Sophie Koster (film maker) and Martine van Santen (choreographer) produce with THE SHORT DANCE COLLECTIVE dance films that explore the problems and issues facing society today. Our films use the power of movement and cinematography to bring to life the struggles of individuals and communities, shedding light on important social and mental health issues.
Our goal is to create films that are not just seen, but deeply felt. We achieve this immersive quality through cinematography and sound design. We tell stories that are written, spoken and inspired by real people. It’s a powerful collaboration and personal experience.

PERFORMANCES
FILM + DANCE +TALK
During a performance by The Short Dance Collective, we make social themes insightful and open for discussion. We do this through a dance film, a dance performance, and (if possible) a post-show talk with the audience
With a unique mix of film, dance, and theatre our performances immerse the audience in a theme, giving them a new lens through which to view the world and sparking conversations that continue after they leave.
Our performances are suitable for theaters, cinemas, festivals, museums, and cultural centers that want to surprise their audience with innovative, physical, and visually strong films and dance.
#METOO
An award winning short dance film. Written and told by victims from all across the world. Their stories are translated into a dance that shows the different phases a victim experiences. A tribute to the powerful movement. We created this film to shed light on the widespread issue of sexual assault and abuse. After hearing about the experiences of friends and loved ones, we felt compelled to use our artistic abilities to tell their stories and pay tribute to the #MeToo movement. Through dance and the words of real victims, we hope to raise awareness, spark conversation, and promote healing for survivors. It’s time for us to break the silence. Thank you to everyone who worked on this project and for sharing their stories to spread the message even further.
